About
Today, women have more opportunities than ever before. In many parts of the world, we are free to decide what we do, where we live, and with whom we spend time. But what should we choose? Precisely because of our unprecedented freedom of choice, we have to contend with new and novel challenges—at work, at home, and in broader society.
At Marcet Society, therefore, we presume that finding our way requires learning. To make sense of the world around us, we need requisite skills and knowledge. Literature, philosophy, and psychology help us manage our relationships and grapple with the comedies of human life; history, economics, and scientific study help us navigate our historical moment and give us insight into the macro dynamics shaping society.
Beyond necessity, living a beautiful and meaningful life impels us to explore. What are we interested in and why? What is inspiring to us, and what inspires others? What is going on in the world and what opportunities does that offer? Through reading and discussion, Marcet Society provides a forum for women to pursue shared intellectual interests and the friendship of virtue.
